how to confirm

You can check the list of functions available in each edition here.

As of this writing (as of the end of March 2020) vSphere 7 has not been released, but this information is considered to be quite credible and has been written as an article.

Two vSphere editions

As before, vSphere ESXi is available in two editions

  • Standard Edition Standard features for small to medium environments
  • Enterprise Plus Edition Full function, large scale environment (for very large enterprises)

Enterprise Plus is an edition used by top companies in Japan (about 100 billion in annual sales is one measure).
Because it is a CPU license, we believe that using Enterprise Plus is the best practice to operate an optimal virtualization platform while reducing the number of CPU sockets and the number of servers by adopting a CPU with many cores.
On the other hand, I think that DRS should always be used, and if I do not use DRS, I personally feel that Standard Edition is enough.

You should also be careful when adopting HCI products such as VSAN, Nutanix, SimpliVity, but depending on the storage used, there are some functions (VAAI etc.) that can not be used with Standard Edition, so when selecting a product, vSphere edition We recommend that you pay attention to.

When you design new on-premises IT platform you should check supported OS(s) before you begin to install operating system.
